From weekly playgroups and baby classes to rainy day ideas and outdoor adventures, we’ve gathered everything parents need to enjoy Wànaka, Hawea and surrounds with children.

MUMS & BUBS:

Wanaka Well 

When: Second and Fourth Tuesday of each month

Where: Upper Clutha Plunket rooms 51 Ardmore Street

Wànaka Well is a free drop in session for parent seeking breastfeeding support, advice and community connection in Wànaka. This group offers support from trained peer supporters and access to qualifiers lactation consultants.

Precious Beginnings

When: Wednesdays 9.45am-11.45am

Where: Wànaka Presbyterian Church

Precious Beginnings is a free 10-week programme for parents with babies under 5 months. Connect with others, gain confidence and explore parenting topics in a supportive, baby-friendly space. Free to attend, enrolment is required.

Upper Clutha Plunket 

When: Open Mon-Fri 9.00-3.00

Where: 51 Ardmore Street, Wānaka 9305

The clinic provides a warm and welcoming environment for parents and caregivers of the under fives. You can find baby changing, toilet, breast feeding, bottle warming, play and tea and coffee facilities.

Wànaka Mums and Bugs Walking Group 

When: 9.30am Friday Mornings

Where:  Wanaka Edgewater, Albert Town, Wanaka Eely Point and Hawea.

Walk for an hour, then head to a cafe.  Walk with whatever works for you i.e. buggy or front pack. Kids are welcome to ride bikes too. No need to RSVP just show up for a walk and a chat with other mums. Keep an eye on the Facebook page for updates.

Mainly Music Wànaka 

When: 9.30am Tuesdays during school term.

Where: Wanaka Presbyterian Church.

Babies, toddlers, pre-schoolers and parents will be treated to music and story, activity and interaction, structured and unstructured fun. $4 per family.

When: 9:30am Wednesdays

Where: St Ninian’s Community Church

Wriggle and Rhyme Wànaka

When: Tuesdays 10.30am during school term

Where: Wànaka Library

 Wriggle and Rhyme is a music and movement session for parents and babies aged 0-2.

Mums And Bubs Fitness, Yoga And Pilates

Various studios offer a relaxed space to move your body while spending time with your baby. These gentle classes offer a chance to reconnect with yourself, calm your mind, and enjoy a quiet moment together in the midst of early motherhood. See the below links for times and locations.

Storytime Wanaka

When:  Wednesday 10am- 11am during school term

Where: Wànaka Library

 Bring your pre-school children down for a fun, engaging storytelling session.

Kiddy Kickers

When: Thursday 10.30am

Where: Paetara Aspiring Central, 35 Plantation Road, Wānaka

Kiddy Kickers is an indoor football programme for toddlers (18 months to 4 years old). Parents will need to be actively involved as we work on motor skills, balance and coordination through soccer! This is a drop in class that you can attend every week!

Mini Muscles 

When: Multiple classes a week, check out the timetable here 

Where: Paetara Aspiring Central, 35 Plantation Road, Wānaka

Mini-Muscles offers fun, active indoor play sessions for children aged 0–5, with classes tailored to different stages. From free-play sessions with music and movement to more structured classes that support growing confidence and coordination, there's something for every age. Caregivers get expert-backed insights into child development in a relaxed, welcoming space for Mums, Dads, Grandparents, and Nannies alike.

 

Hawea Playgroup

When: Mon, Tue & Thu 9.00am- 12.30pm (during school term)

Where: 554 Camp Hill Road, Hawea Flat

Hawea Playgroup is a supportive environment for parents and children (newborn to 5yrs) and provides plenty of play opportunity for all ages. Parents can network and enjoy a safe, warm and well resourced environment (inside and outside) with their children.  $3 per family.

Wanaka Playgroup

When: Mondays and Thursdays, 9:30am-12:30pm

Where: Squash Club on Stone Street

Only $3 per family, all welcome!  This relaxed playgroup is open to locals and visitors with kids aged 0–6. A fun, friendly space to connect, play, and explore together.

OTHERS:

Wanaka Toy Library 

A huge selection of toys to borrow. Open Tuesday 6.30 - 7.30pm and Friday & Saturday 9.30am-11.30am.
